day 92
i haven't written since bp announced the " capping of the well". i couldn't write cuz all i could think to type was "i don't trust those fuckin liars!" well now that i'm back i would like to start off by saying "i don't trust those fuckin liars!" of course, by liars i am referring to those fine folks at bp.
it now seems that there is a clear connection between bp and the release of the lockerbee murderer.( humanitarian early release due to the murderers' impending death.) he is alive, the gulf is dead. read up on the deal to release the bomber in exchange for oil rights. it will make you sick.
bp has been trying for the last couple of months to hire on as many local scientists and grad students as possible to control the release of information.
you can now fish locally, but only on a catch and release basis. like i would eat anything out of there!
warnings of nausea and eye irritations due to breezes coming from water. nice.
the brown pelican, once almost extinct because of DDT destroying their eggs, may again find itself on the endangered species list.
bp executives should be held personally liable for their criminal negligence in contaminating the gulf of mexico and for the deaths of the eleven workers that died on the rig 92 days ago

day 84
it is now reported that there are 227 confirmed cases of "toxic exposure". what the hell is that?! it is not known if these cases are due to direct exposure with the oil or the myriad of chemicals that have been added to this toxic soup in the gulf.

day 82
i was talking with a coast guardsman the other day in the restaurant who identified himself as a reservist activated to work on the oil disaster. when i asked him what he was doing here (from seattle) and he said "i'm a duck washer". naturally, i coaxed a little more info out of him and this is what he told me. he works in civilian life as a marine biologist and was down here literally washing ducks! and pelicans, egrets, great blue herons, etc.. he was quite forthcoming about the sadness of his mission. he mentioned something i had never thought about..."wildlife morgues" yeah, that's right, wildlife morgues. these are strategically placed around the coast and are quite busy. i really had to work up the image in my head, cuz this was so far removed from my thinking. wildlife morgues are downplayed while the small, and yes, glorious rescues, are getting all the spotlight. please, think about the dead and dying wildlife. how many endangered turtle species will be incinerated in the surface burnings? talk to others about this and us.

day 81
today is my first post. i am inspired to start this blog to share my thoughts about the current oil disaster and it's effect on the wildlife, the beach, the community and me. the beach and the beach blvd is still closed due to the standing oil. you can imagine the aerosal effect of the oil on a south mississippi summer day. cannot explain the feelings of the average citizen here. i supppose " impotent" would be a good one word description. we used to define ourselves as pre-katrina, post-katrina. now i am afraid we will be pre-oil, post oil.
i will get this blog looking nice right soon. i promise! jamie
